Top plate castors follow standard bolt hole centres across the trade, so replacements usually bolt straight on; bolt hole castors fit tubular frames via a single fixing, with expanding adaptors available to accommodate different tube sizes. Remember that castor sizes refer to the wheel diameter, not overall height — a 100mm castor stands taller than its name suggests, so measure carefully if clearance is tight.
Finally, consider the bearing type and tread. Plain bearings are simple and robust; roller bearings cut the effort needed to start heavy loads moving; and precision ball bearings ensure smooth movement wherever equipment is pushed by hand all day, providing increased productivity for a small extra cost. A wider tread width spreads weight over soft floors, while a crowned tread swivels more easily. Heavy duty models may also feature a grease nipple for easy maintenance, keeping performance consistent through years of hard use.
